Big Bowl Intensive Workshop - Saturdays

Want to improve your bowl throwing?

Ready to make functional serving bowls and cereal size bowls?

Rachael will teach you techniques for throwing a bowl with a continuous curve and then trimming to make your bowl lighter with a nice foot.

This class is for folks who already have experience throwing 2-5 pounds of clay on the wheel. During this 3-hour workshop Rachael will demo throwing a bowl as well as trimming a leather hard bowl, you will have the opportunity to throw a few bowls and/or trimming some bowls you’ve already made. We will also go over glazing techniques.

Class includes 1 - 25lb. bag of clay and Saturday afternoon Open Studio access during the 3 weeks.

The class will be held Saturdays on March 6, 13, 20

Basic Cylinders - 4 week "Must-Do" workshop

Calendar Apr 4, 2021 at 2 pm, runs for 4 weeks

Cylinders take time and practice and can be a bit of a process, but they are one of the fundamentals of many pottery shapes.

This class will work on learning how to make and develop the throwing process of cylinders and ONLY cylinders. We will drill on the various steps involved in raising a cylinder. It will be a practice class and we will keep only the first and last cylinder so you can see your progression!  

The aim is to make as many cylinders as we can in the class time and honing the skills needed to do so.This skill is basic to being a good potter and will stay with you all the rest of your days in the studio.

Glaze Fundamentals - May 2021

This workshop is for students who have experience in the clay studio and can provide their own bisque ware for practicing techniques during the workshop.

We will explore different methods of ceramic glaze application and other surface treatments. Printed materials will be provided.

Discussion will include, but not be limited to, glaze chemistry, dry materials and glaze formulation. Students will come away from the workshop with a better understanding ceramic glazes and how to use them to create beautiful surfaces.
